Developing the value of a project
The few methods that I can suggest to develop the correct value of a project is collaboration and making sure that cost is current. Collaboration between the business side and IT is necessary for the organization to develop the value of a project. I think the biggest issue that organizations can have is the inability to collaborate cost structure and assessment of a project on an ongoing basis. I think the basics are fundamentally inherent in the start of a project. The assessment of the project including resources should be automatically done between two teams. However, the ongoing project collaboration is usually lost as it is “just IT’s job to do it” and it is just the “business side to complain about it”. All joking aside, it is an issue that needs to be addressed when projects are under way. The other situation is keeping costs current. IT projects and IT systems in general have a very short life span. Moore’s Law gives us the reference that IT costs will change very rapidly. As technology grows, the cost decreases quiet a bit. In this scenario, the costs must be kept current in order to correctly identify and value a project.
