Working your IT team

One of the biggest concerns of any IT manager is his or her ability to achieve a well developed IT team without losing the necessary structure to ensure that it will continue to function as a single entity. One of the biggest issues I see through my work is the inability of managers to effectively safeguard their work prioritization during a “crisis”. This crisis can mean any situation that you as the manager run into or it has been added by you by the powers that be. Simply put, by providing a set of rules to each individual as well as yourself to abide by during a crisis can reduce your chances of losing your well oiled machine to an simple accidental server shutdown. Your number one concern is your team and the effectiveness of their work. That is why a set of rules and goals can help you in the long run to ensure that tasks are completed effectively. This can backfire if you feel that there are situations that are entirely too simplistic to always follow rules. This is something that you, as a manager, should be aware of and address during day to day resolutions.
